Running Injuries

Overuse running injuries

Like any sport or activity, injuries can happen from doing the same movements or activities too much. Overuse running injuries can occur in the foot, ankle, Achilles’ tendon, iliotibial band (ITB), knee, hip or back.

The most common causes of these injuries are incorrect technique and poor posture or weakness in certain muscle groups. These injuries often build up over time with a gradual onset and increase in pain.

It is important to not leave these “niggles” until they become a more serious issue as this means that rehabilitation is often slower meaning you spend precious time on the sidelines!  They can be related to a change in running shoes (or shoes that are too old!), running surface or amount of training.

Physiotherapy treatment involves massage, joint techniques, strengthening exercises and correcting your posture and running technique.
